Property 1: When a number is subtracted from itself then the difference is zero.

Property 2: When '0' is subtracted from a number then the difference is the number itself.

Or, when the minuend is 0 then the difference is the subtrahend.

Example: Subtract 0 from 9498

Here, Difference = Subtrahend

9498 – 0 = 9498

Property 3: We can check the answer by adding the difference to the minuend. If we get the subtrahend then the answer is correct, otherwise you need to check the calculation.

Or, Minuend + Difference = Subtrahend

Example: Subtract 4422 from 8689 and check your answer.

Step 1: 8689 – 4422

Step 2: Now add minuend and difference i.e. 4422 and 4267.

The sum of minuend and difference is equal to the subtrahend. Therefore, the answer is correct.

There are 5674 students in a school. 3200 of them are boys. Find the number of girls.
