Behind the invention of process, an innovative mind of a washerwoman was involved. One day, while washing a miner's overall coats, she noticed that dirt similar to sand fell to the bottom of the washtub. The copper bearing compounds that were attached to the fibre of coat float to the top when dipped in soap solution. The Washerwoman told her experience to Mrs. Everson, a chemist. The chemist studied the principle explained by washerwoman and the idea was used for separating copper compounds on large scale. This invention made copper mining profitable and was popularized as Froth Floatation Process.
