Dependent and Independent Units
To recap, the seven fundamental units are:
K - Kelvin (Temperature)
s - second (Time)
m - metre (Length)
kg - kilogram (Mass)
cd - c (Luminous Intensity)
mol - mole(Amount of substance)
A - Ampere (Electric Current)
Their interdependency is shown in the adjacent figure.
Among the above units, which are dependent units and which are independent?
Dependent units:
Length (m), candela (cd), mole (mol) and Ampere (A) are the four dependent units. You can see from the figure that the arrow head points towards them from other units.
Independent units:
Temperature (K), time (s) and mass (kg) are the three independent units. You can see from the figure that the arrow heads point away from them and there is no arrow head pointing towards them.
