How is whistling sound made by a whistle?
When you blow into a whistle, the air stream pushes the ball and enters into a cavity. The ball periodically blocks the air entering the cavity. The air in and out of the cavity causes the whistle to warble, which is a typical sound of any whistle, whether it is a toy whistle or a police whistle.
How do you generate sound from your throat?
The voice mechanism involves the lungs and diaphragm as the power source, and the larynx, pharynx, mouth and nose as well. At the base of the short tubular larynx are the vocal chords. The larynx opens into the pharynx during speech or singing, and is covered by the epiglottis during swallowing. The vocal tract acts as a cavity resonator with frequencies, which can be modulated.
Voice articulations can be done by changes in the resonance of the vocal tract. Movement of the tongue, pharynx, palate, jaw, or lips can change the basic factors that determine the frequency of cavity resonance.
