Viral diseases are extremely widespread infections caused by viruses, a type of microorganism. There are many types of viruses that cause a wide variety of viral diseases. The most common type of viral disease is the common cold, which is caused by a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract (nose and throat).
Some of the examples include: Hepatitis or Jaundice is an acute infectious disease of liver. It is caused by Hepatitis virus. Rabies is also a viral disease caused by Rabies. AIDS stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is caused by retrovirus (a RNA virus) known as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). AIDS virus attacks white blood cells (WBCs) or lymphocytes (T4 helper cells) of human beings and weakens the human body's immunity or self – defense mechanism. Polio is caused by polio virus. This virus reaches central nervous system via lymphatic system and blood stream. There, the viruses destroy the cells of the spinal cord that are responsible for the control of muscle activities.
